Every woodland has a troublemaker. Meet Bandit, a raccoon in a very convincing mask, who sits on the front of a baby jumper looking exactly like he has just been somewhere he shouldn't. The bin, under the floorboards, listening in on grown-up conversations. Nobody has proved anything.
Bandit is the first animal in a new woodland collection for the Blank Canvas Motif Library, with more on the way. He is worked in Grey, White and Black on a soft Meadow green, and makes a lovely gift for a little one who loves an animal with a bit of character.
A quick word about knitting charts. You can find charts online for free, and many of them are drawn on square grids. The problem is that knit stitches are not square, they are wider than they are tall. A chart drawn on squares knits up squashed. Every motif in this library is drawn to the correct stitch ratio, so what you see on the chart is what you get on the jumper.
And if charts are not your thing, Bandit also comes with full written row-by-row instructions, colour by colour. Work from whichever you prefer.
The PDF includes the front of the Blank Canvas Baby Sweater with Bandit already in place, with the maths worked out for every size. You just cast on and follow along. The Blank Canvas Baby Sweater itself is not included in this PDF and is available separately.
Bandit does not have to go on a Blank Canvas Baby Sweater. He will sit happily on any baby jumper front of the right size, worked in DK yarn at standard tension. You can also add him to a plain knitted garment you have already made, using duplicate stitch.
Designed by Jane Burns. I've been creating exclusive knitting and crochet patterns for babies and children for 18 years, so you can trust this one is as easy to follow as it looks.
About the Blank Canvas Baby Sweater

It is worked flat and seamed in Stylecraft Special DK, with a 2x2 rib hem, cuffs and neckband. It comes in six sizes, from 0-6 months to 4-5 years. The base pattern is available separately here.
