There is something about an autumn baby that brings on the cosy feels, possibly because I am an autumn baby.  The warm heathered tones, the little deer on the front, the tiny tree on the other, it is the kind of thing you knit once and people ask about for years.

This is Forest Fawn, a baby and toddler cardigan with intarsia motifs on both fronts. It is a raglan, worked flat from the bottom up, with rolled hems and a single button. Simple, modern, and the kind of neutral that goes with everything a small person owns.

The pattern is written for confident beginners. The motifs are small, which means the intarsia is manageable even if you have never tried it before. If you would rather skip the colour work entirely, both the deer and the tree can be worked using duplicate stitch (Swiss darning) once the knitting is complete, no intarsia required at all. I have included clear instructions for both approaches.

Designed by Jane Burns. I've been creating knitting and crochet patterns for babies and children for 18 years, so you can trust this one is as straightforward to follow as it looks.
