A robin is not just for Christmas. If you sew the Santa hat on carefully, you can remove it after the festive season and extend the life of this little sweater considerably. It is a more practical design philosophy than it first appears.
Rockin' Robin is a baby and toddler Christmas jumper knitting pattern for ages 0-6 months to 2-3 years, featuring a robin worked in intarsia across the front with a knitted applique wing and removable Santa hat sewn on to finish. The sleeves are worked in a simple two-colour stripe in Platinum and Grey, the hem and cuffs in a red garter border, and the shoulder opening fastens with buttons. Drop shoulder construction, seamed, and as simple to knit as it looks. The pattern includes both a chart and full written row-by-row instructions for the intarsia panel, so it works whether you prefer to work from a chart or written instructions.
If you prefer, you can also omit the Santa hat entirely and embroider on the eye with black yarn rather than using a button. The robin works beautifully all year round.
