Halloween is one of those occasions that creeps up quietly and then announces itself at full volume. One day it is September and you have plenty of time. The next it is mid-October and someone is asking whether there is a pumpkin jumper they could wear to the nursery halloween party. There is. It is this one.

Meet Patch, a smiling halloween pumpkin with heart-shaped eyes. And they call it pumpkin love. He sits on the front of a baby jumper and looks extremely pleased to be there. Not spooky. Not sinister. Just a very happy pumpkin, which is exactly what you want on a baby.

You can find a growing collection of motifs in my store, including more halloween designs on their way.

A quick word about knitting charts. You can find charts online for free, and many of them are drawn on square grids. The problem is that knit stitches are not square, they are rectangular, wider than they are tall. A chart drawn on squares will knit up distorted, wider and shorter than it should be. Every motif in this library is drawn to the correct stitch ratio, so what you see on the chart is what you get on the jumper.

And if charts are not your thing, every motif also comes with full written row-by-row instructions, colour by colour, stitch by stitch. Work from whichever you prefer.

The PDF also includes instructions for placing Patch into the front of the Blank Canvas Baby Sweater, with all the maths already worked out for each size. You just cast on and follow along. The Blank Canvas Baby Sweater is not included in this PDF and is available to purchase separately.

Of course, Patch does not have to go on a Blank Canvas Baby Sweater. He will sit happily on any baby jumper front of the right dimensions, worked in DK yarn at standard tension. You can also add him to an existing plain knitted garment using duplicate stitch, so you do not need to start from scratch.

Designed by Jane Burns. I've been creating knitting and crochet patterns for babies and children for 18 years, so you can trust this one is as straightforward to follow as it looks.
