Every baby needs a first Halloween outfit. This one has a pocket that is also a mouth, a knitted tail with a buttonhole at the end, six knitted teeth, felt eyes, and six multicolour spikes sewn down the side of the leg. Monstrous Monster Pants is a baby romper knitting pattern for ages 0-6 months to 18-24 months, and it is absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way.
The romper is knitted flat on straight needles and seamed. The straps cross at the back and are adjustable with buttons, so the romper fits for as long as possible as your little one grows. The backside is shaped with short rows using the wrap and turn technique, which sounds alarming but is fully explained in the pattern and is actually a lovely first short row project.
The mouth pocket is knitted separately and attached with the teeth already sewn inside, so when you open the pocket the monster bites. It is the kind of detail that makes this an exceptionally good baby shower gift.
