There is something about Halloween that never really grows up. The smell of bonfires, the crunch of leaves underfoot, the excitement of small people who have been thinking about this night since September. Monster Mash is a Frankenstein jumper knitting pattern for children aged 12 months to 11 years, warm enough for a crisp October evening and memorable enough to become the costume they ask for every year.
The jumper is worked in bright green with violet and black striped sleeves, a full set of monster features including swiss-darned eyes, an embroidered scar, a crocheted mouth, and a knitted tongue sewn on at the end. The hair is the only intarsia section and uses just two colours, or can be swiss darned on after knitting if you prefer. The eyes are worked entirely in duplicate stitch from the chart provided. A great first colourwork project, and considerably more fun than most.
Designed by Jane Burns. I've been creating knitting and crochet patterns for babies and children for 18 years, so you can trust this one is as straightforward to follow as it looks.
