There is a noise a small child makes when they have something 'scary' in their pocket. Hushed, mischievous, and very pleased with themselves.
In the Ghost House jumper and mittens pattern, the something scary is a pair of ghost mittens, and the pocket is the haunted house itself. With its glowing windows, a knitted fence along the hem and a moon overhead, this is the jumper they will ask for every October until the sleeves are halfway up their arms.
The house is knitted separately and sewn on, so there is no intarsia to wrestle with. The jumper (sweater) is worked flat from the bottom up, with set-in sleeves and a buttoned shoulder that makes it easy to get over little heads. The sky fades from denim to periwinkle with a few simple stripes, the instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the mittens are quick to knit up.

| Yarn | Stylecraft Special DK, 100% acrylic, 295m (322yds) per 100g. Any DK weight yarn will work, and Premier Yarns Basix DK is a good US alternative. |
