Have you ever met a small child who is not fascinated by fire engines? Freddie is here for all of them.

The Fire Engine Sweater is a kids intarsia jumper knitting pattern for ages 1 to 9 years, featuring Freddie, a bold red fire engine worked in intarsia across the front with striped sleeves and a knitted ladder sewn on for a satisfying 3D finish. The smaller details, such as the siren, lights, and windows, can be swiss darned on after the knitting is complete, which keeps the intarsia section very manageable. The ladder is worked using either crochet chains or knitted i-cord, so there is an option for everyone. Knitted from the bottom up and seamed.

The pattern is rated confident beginner for the main body, with the intarsia section worked from a chart. The flexibility to swiss darn the smaller details means this is much more approachable than it looks.

Designed by Jane Burns, with 18 years of experience creating exclusive baby and children's knitting patterns. Simple to follow, lovely to make, and a real pleasure to give.
