Every baby shower needs a showstopper, and a tiny pirate is hard to beat. Aye Aye Captain is a knitted hat and shorts set for babies aged 6 to 18 months, complete with a beanie hat with a crocheted eyepatch cord, and a pair of little shorts worked in bold stripes with an intarsia pirate flag on the front.
The skull detail is swiss darned on after knitting, which keeps the project simpler and gives a lovely 3D finish. The pants are worked flat on straight needles and seamed, and the hat is worked in the round, so there is very little sewing up. It knits up quickly, and it is a lovely one to give.
